Mill MRO Buyer & Stores Manager

Location: Near Water town NY, Onsite Role

Be the driving force behind plant reliability, inventory performance, and procurement excellence.

We're partnering with a leading industrial manufacturer seeking a Mill MRO Buyer & Stores Manager to take ownership of site purchasing, storeroom operations, and inventory management. This is a highly visible role where you'll work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure critical materials are available when they're needed most.

What You'll Own

  • Lead daily purchasing activities for MRO materials, maintenance services, and operating supplies
  • Manage requisitions and purchase orders through the ERP system
  • Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and EHS to support plant requirements
  • Ensure material readiness for planned maintenance events, outages, and shutdowns
  • Oversee storeroom operations, including:
    • Inventory accuracy
    • Item master management
    • Min/max settings and safety stock levels
    • Cycle counting and inventory controls
    • Obsolete and excess inventory reduction
  • Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure on-time delivery and issue resolution
  • Support supplier transitions, sourcing initiatives, and preferred vendor programs
  • Track and improve key metrics including inventory turns, stockouts, supplier performance, and purchasing efficiency
  • Serve as the primary owner of the site's CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Drive continuous improvement projects focused on cost savings, inventory optimization, and operational reliability

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in MRO purchasing, tactical buying, storeroom management, inventory control, or maintenance materials management
  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial, paper, packaging, pulp, or process industries
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical components
  • Proven experience managing vendors, purchase orders, inventory levels, and material expediting
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience using CMMS platforms
  • Exposure to maintenance shutdowns, outages, or maintenance planning activities preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and business systems
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • APICS/ASCM, CPSM, or similar supply chain certifications are a plus
