Principal Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary
A leading medical device manufacturer is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the development of next-generation surgical equipment and patient positioning systems. This is a highly visible engineering role focused on the design, analysis, and development of complex electromechanical products, combining mechanical structures, drive systems, mechanisms, sensors, and motion control technologies.
The successful candidate will play a key role in product innovation, leading projects from concept through testing, validation, and production while collaborating closely with R&D, manufacturing, clinical, and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex electromechanical medical devices and patient positioning systems
- Create innovative mechanical solutions involving motion systems, actuators, and structural assemblies
- Perform engineering analysis to ensure products meet requirements for strength, reliability, stability, and performance
- Design and integrate motors, gearboxes, bearings, sensors, and drivetrain components
- Lead product development activities from concept through commercialization
- Partner with manufacturing teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and design-for-manufacturing initiatives
- Drive product improvements, cost reduction efforts, and technical problem-solving
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, service, quality, and marketing
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 8+ years of product design experience
- Strong experience with electromechanical design and analysis
- Expertise in mechanism design, motion systems, and structural engineering
- Experience with motors, actuators, gearboxes, sensors, bearings, and drivetrain integration
- Proficiency with CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks
- Hands-on experience developing products from concept through production
- Excellent communication and project leadership skills
