Company Overview

A North American resource and materials company is seeking a Sulfuric Acid Plant Shift Supervisor to support a major greenfield processing operation in Northern Nevada.

The organization is developing a large-scale processing facility focused on the domestic production of critical materials. This is an opportunity to join the site during commissioning and start-up and play a key role in transitioning the facility into steady-state operations.

Role

The Sulfuric Acid Plant Shift Supervisor will be responsible for the safe and effective commissioning, start-up, and ongoing operation of the sulfuric acid plant.

This individual will lead day-to-day plant operations, supervise production personnel, ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards, troubleshoot process issues, and drive operational performance and continuous improvement.

The position is site-based in Northern Nevada and reports to the Sulfuric Acid Superintendent.

Direct sulfuric acid plant experience is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the safe operation of the sulfuric acid plant, ensuring compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
• Supervise, lead, and develop sulfuric acid operations crews and relevant contractors.
• Lead commissioning and start-up activities to safely achieve plant design capacity.
• Monitor and report operational KPIs, including EHS compliance, production, quality, and efficiency metrics.
• Troubleshoot sulfuric acid production and process issues and coordinate corrective actions.
• Supervise hourly production operators to achieve daily production targets.
• Manage plant production schedules and shift priorities.
• Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Assist in developing emergency response plans and procedures.
• Ensure completion of operational reporting and record-keeping requirements.
• Coordinate closely with maintenance, electrical, mobile equipment, processing, and other departments to maximize plant performance.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, transportation, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Provide operational guidance to employees, contractors, and consultants.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships and maintain a collaborative, safety-focused operating culture.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in sulfuric acid plant operations, sulfuric acid production, or a directly related sulfuric acid processing environment.
• Hands-on knowledge of sulfuric acid production processes, equipment, and plant operations.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience leading plant operations personnel.
• Experience in greenfield or brownfield start-up environments, including commissioning, staffing, training, and ramp-up.
• Strong understanding of sulfuric acid plant principles, chemical processes, and unit operations.
• Experience troubleshooting sulfuric acid production and process issues.
• Proficiency with plant control systems/DCS and laboratory data interpretation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead operations personnel in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Strong understanding of PSM, OSHA, environmental compliance, and chemical plant safety.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Candidates coming from mining, mineral processing, chemical manufacturing, refining, metals processing, or similar heavy industrial environments may be relevant, but direct sulfuric acid plant experience is required.

• Travel: Occasional travel may be required
