Senior Product Development Engineer - Medical Implants (m/f/d)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Development Engineer to lead the development, optimisation, and lifecycle management of advanced medical implant technologies. In this role, you will drive innovative product solutions from concept to market launch, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations and working closely with cross‑functional teams including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development of implantable medical devices, including concept generation, prototyping, testing, and design validation.
  • Own product development activities in line with ISO 13485, MDR, and relevant implantable device standards.
  • Drive technical decision-making and mentor junior engineers in design methodologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, clinical teams, and external partners to integrate user needs into product specifications.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables using strong project management skills.
  • Conduct risk assessments (FMEA) and ensure robust documentation throughout the development cycle.
  • Support design transfer to manufacturing and troubleshoot complex technical challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the development of medical implants (orthopaedic, cardiovascular, neurological, dental, or related).
  • Strong expertise in materials, biocompatibility, design verification, and implantable device technologies.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
  • Proven experience working within regulated medical device environments (ISO 13485, MDR).
  • Strong project leadership capabilities and experience coordinating cross-functional teams.
  • Fluent German and strong English communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Knowledge of sterilisation processes, packaging validation, or embedded technologies for active implants.
  • Background in clinical evaluation or working with physician advisory groups.
