Senior Refrigeration Systems Engineer
Overview
A growing manufacturer of advanced environmental testing systems is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Systems Engineer to serve as the company's refrigeration subject matter expert. This highly visible technical leadership role will drive refrigeration architecture, system performance, regulatory compliance, refrigerant transition initiatives, and long-term product strategy across both standard and custom-engineered platforms.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, sales, manufacturing, service, and regulatory teams while supporting customers in industries including battery manufacturing, automotive, electronics, and aerospace.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the company's refrigeration SME and technical authority.
- Lead refrigeration architecture across standard and custom environmental chamber platforms.
- Design and optimize single-stage, cascade, and LNâ‚‚-assisted refrigeration systems.
- Develop thermodynamic models, refrigeration state diagrams, and performance simulations.
- Create and maintain refrigeration schematics, component selections, and BOMs.
- Partner with Sales to develop compliant refrigeration solutions for customer applications.
- Lead A2L refrigerant transition initiatives and associated safety strategies.
- Support certification efforts with UL, Intertek, CE, and other regulatory organizations.
- Troubleshoot refrigeration performance issues in production and the field.
- Drive reliability, manufacturability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mentor engineers and establish refrigeration design standards.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of refrigeration engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and refrigeration system design.
- Experience with medium- and low-temperature refrigeration systems.
- Hands-on experience with refrigerants such as R410A, R404A, R449A, and R508B.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting cascade refrigeration systems.
- Knowledge of LNâ‚‚-assisted cooling systems.
- Familiarity with A2L refrigerants, including R454A.
- Experience with refrigeration piping design, oil management, and system optimization.
- Ability to diagnose systems using pressure and temperature data.
- CAD proficiency, preferably SolidWorks Electrical.
- Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
