Position: EHS Specialist
As an EHS Specialist, you will support the plant in achieving EHS targets, ensuring safe and environmentally responsible operations for our employees and the community. You'll maintain compliance with Federal, State, Municipal, and Corporate regulations, implementing, monitoring, and managing all environmental, health, safety, and quality procedures and programs to enhance operations continuously. Additionally, you'll actively support employees on day-to-day issues and provide necessary training.
Responsibilities:
- Cultivating a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance through procedure development, auditing, and document management. Serving as the primary contact with local regulators for site safety and environmental compliance, advising plant management on regulatory requirements, and completing all site and regulatory reporting promptly.
- Overseeing employee training on health, safety, and environmental issues, maintaining comprehensive training records. Informing management and employees about safety concerns, analyzing new products, materials, and processes for effective hazard communication and safety procedures.
- Coordinating incident analysis and action plan follow-ups to prevent recurrence, maintaining document control per ISO/Corporate requirements using SharePoint. Staying updated with corporate EHS standards, implementing improvements, and training personnel on modifications.
- Managing the emergency response program and medical monitoring initiatives according to corporate guidelines and the plant Integrated Contingency Plan. Developing site Industrial Hygiene protocol and supervising its execution, including coordinating the personal protective equipment program.
- Leading the plant's waste minimization and Behavioral Safety Programs, focusing on sustainable options and positive reinforcement. Collaborating with production teams to review and enhance health, safety, environmental, and quality processes, including performing laboratory work as backup for the Senior Lab Technician.
- Fulfilling any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Environmental, H&S engineering, or similar), or equivalent experience in a chemical/manufacturing facility.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and Indiana State regulations is advantageous.
- Capability for lab bench work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and review procedures.
- Effective time management skills to prioritize and complete various competing tasks.
- Experience with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and SAP.
