Control Systems Engineer
Our Client is seeking a highly driven Process Control & Automation Engineer to support the reliability, safety, and continuous improvement of automation systems within a complex manufacturing environment. This role serves as the technical expert for process controls, instrumentation, and safety systems, ensuring critical automation infrastructure operates safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards.
The ideal candidate combines strong controls engineering expertise with hands‑on troubleshooting capabilities and experience supporting capital projects, process safety initiatives, and plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Reliability & System Performance
- Develop and continuously improve maintenance strategies for automation and control systems to maximize reliability and operational performance.
- Serve as the site subject matter expert for process control systems, instrumentation, and automation technologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system, instrumentation, and process loop issues impacting production.
- Develop and optimize control logic, interlocks, and advanced control strategies to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency.
Controls Engineering & System Support
- Support and maintain PLC, DCS, SIS, HMI, and associated automation infrastructure.
- Maintain automation documentation, loop diagrams, control narratives, and change management records.
- Provide technical support for process instrumentation including control valves, transmitters, sensors, flow devices, VFDs, and related equipment.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams to ensure system reliability and cybersecurity readiness.
Capital Projects & Modernization
- Lead and support automation scope for capital projects, system upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
- Develop control narratives, I/O lists, and functional specifications for new installations and process improvements.
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, startup, and system validation activities.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Process Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure automation systems comply with applicable safety, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in hazard analyses, risk assessments, safety instrumented system activities, and management of change processes.
- Support alarm management, control system testing, and cybersecurity initiatives.
- Drive best practices related to process safety, functional safety, and automation governance.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Support
- Analyze process and operational data to identify opportunities for improved performance and reduced variability.
- Provide real‑time support to operations and maintenance teams to maximize uptime and productivity.
- Support ongoing reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of process control, automation, or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or process industry environment.
- Strong understanding of process instrumentation, control loops, and automation systems.
- Experience supporting PLC, DCS, SIS, and HMI platforms.
- Knowledge of industrial networking, communication protocols, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
