About the Role
As the Director of Microbiology, you will be responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards, and implementing best-in-class microbiological practices. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and R&D teams to maintain the highest standards of sterility and environmental control, supporting the production of life-saving pharmaceutical products
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the microbiology department's vision, aligning with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
- Laboratory Oversight: Manage all microbiology laboratory functions, including plate reading, sterility testing, water and air quality monitoring, and microbial identification.
- Environmental Monitoring: Ensure robust environmental testing programs for cleanrooms and controlled areas, maintaining compliance with FDA, EMA, and ISO standards.
- Quality & Compliance: Develop and enforce SOPs, validation protocols, and risk assessments to meet cGMP and regulatory expectations.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 30 microbiology professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Drive adoption of new technologies, automation, and data-driven approaches to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues, support audits, and ensure timely product release.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 10+ years in pharmaceutical microbiology, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Education: Advanced degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- Expertise: Strong knowledge of aseptic processing, contamination control, and regulatory compliance (FDA, EMA, ICH).
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage large teams and complex projects in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with rapid microbiological methods, data integrity principles, and modern laboratory systems.
