Material Planning Supervisor

The Material Planning Supervisor is responsible for leading production planning and scheduling activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely availability of materials, alignment of production schedules, and efficient execution to meet customer demand and operational targets. The ideal candidate thrives in high-intensity, urgent settings and is comfortable leading a team while adapting quickly to changing priorities.

This position oversees a team of 6 material planners and requires a 5-day onsite presence to support real-time decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily and weekly production planning and scheduling activities to support manufacturing operations
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of 6 material planners, driving accountability and performance
  • Ensure material availability to support uninterrupted production and on-time customer delivery
  • Operate effectively in a high-urgency, fast-paced environment, adjusting plans quickly based on demand fluctuations, supply constraints, and operational challenges
  • Partner cross-functionally with procurement, production, warehouse, and operations teams to resolve material shortages and scheduling conflicts
  • Continuously monitor and adjust production schedules to optimize capacity, inventory levels, and throughput
  • Utilize ERP systems (AS400 or similar) to manage planning, track materials, and maintain data accuracy
  • Analyze key planning metrics (shortages, backorders, inventory levels) and drive corrective actions
  • Proactively identify risks to production and escalate with clear recovery plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience preferred)
  • 3-7+ years experience in material planning, production scheduling, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience leading or supervising planners or similar roles
  • Ability to perform in high-volume, deadline-driven environments with constant changes
  • Experience with ERP systems (AS400 preferred; other systems acceptable)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
