Production Maintenance Supervisor
Core Hours
- Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- Transitioning in 2027 to Wednesday - Saturday, 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM (every other Wednesday off)
Purpose and Scope
The Production Maintenance Supervisor leads and coordinates all maintenance activities for production and packaging equipment, including aseptic processes. This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance work while providing technical support across manufacturing operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Partner with the Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations, ensuring all facilities and equipment remain operational, within budget, and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Manage maintenance systems and personnel to ensure work orders are completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.
- Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate maintenance staff; conduct performance reviews and recommend compensation adjustments as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to develop and implement training programs for Production Maintenance Technicians.
- Maintain and manage spare parts inventory, including monitoring stock levels, initiating purchases, and controlling costs.
- Support quality investigations and participate in internal and external audits.
- Assist with facility design, layout, and expansion projects for new or upgraded production areas.
- Ensure the development, implementation, and adherence to preventive maintenance schedules for all production equipment.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for specialized maintenance and repair work.
- Provide recommendations to leadership on improving equipment performance and resolving maintenance challenges.
- Oversee routine and scheduled maintenance activities on process equipment and machinery.
- Manage engineering-related support, including equipment installation, modification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and guide Maintenance Technicians (levels I-III) in equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Educate maintenance and production staff on proper equipment use, cleaning, and maintenance practices.
- Ensure training documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with cGMP requirements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Assist in preparing and monitoring the department budget to ensure financial targets are met.
- Promote and enforce company safety policies, acting as a strong advocate for workplace safety programs.
- Represent the maintenance department in cross-functional meetings as needed.
- Participate in hazardous waste training and oversee related activities, including proper handling and response procedures for universal waste and chemical spills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and/or ISO 9001 standards.
- Experience with maintenance operations in an FDA-regulated environment.
- Proven leadership and supervisory capabilities with excellent communication skills.
- High mechanical aptitude with the ability to evaluate and optimize equipment performance.
- Strong technical expertise to effectively lead skilled maintenance personnel.
- Proficiency in writing and reviewing technical procedures and documentation.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and maintenance scheduling systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across a range of technical issues.
- Ability to collaborate with internal technical experts and external vendors or consultants.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
