Controls Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Electro/Mechanical Controls Engineer with a strong background in electrical and mechanical engineering, software development, and hands-on hardware and programming expertise. This role involves leading projects that enhance Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance within a manufacturing environment. The position provides ongoing technical support to operations and maintenance teams, applying engineering principles and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will design, build, and maintain automated systems and machinery by integrating electrical, mechanical, and software components. Responsibilities include developing PLC control logic, designing electrical hardware and systems, and programming embedded systems to ensure reliable operation of complex machinery and automated processes.
Required Experience
- 2-5 years in similar engineering roles
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
- ERP system experience preferred
- PLC systems and programming (Allen-Bradley, ControlLogix)
- 3-5 years of experience with Variable Frequency Drives (Allen-Bradley, Nidec)
- Plant electrical communication systems (Ethernet IP, ControlNet)
- HMI programming (FactoryTalk View/Wonderware)
- Power distribution and control systems
- Knowledge of National Electric Code
- Planned maintenance experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills and analytical ability
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Automation and Control Engineering
Preferred:
Experience in manufacturing environments, particularly in industries producing pressure-sensitive materials, labels, or adhesives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing objectives for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Participate in safety investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with operations and process engineering to identify and implement technologies that improve process reliability and throughput.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and kaizen events.
- Assist maintenance teams with troubleshooting electrical and programming issues.
- Monitor electrical controls functionality and machine uptime; ensure corrective actions and documentation are completed.
- Lead electrical and programming-related capital projects from concept through implementation.
- Select and implement electrical hardware, including PLCs and HMIs.
- Manage electrical component obsolescence and develop upgrade plans.
- Design and engineer machine modifications and upgrades with minimal disruption to production.
- Develop and support planned maintenance programs for key electrical systems.
- Maintain and update programming systems and software (RSLogix, Wonderware, drive programming packages).
- Coordinate with OEMs and contractors for version control and system updates.
- Support general plant utilities and services.
- Maintain accurate project files and equipment documentation.
