Mechanical Reliability Engineer
We are seeking a Mechanical Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the performance, uptime, and longevity of critical mill equipment. This role focuses on identifying failure risks, implementing proactive maintenance strategies, and leading reliability initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and reduce unplanned downtime.
The Opportunity
As a key member of the Maintenance & Reliability team, you will be responsible for improving the reliability of mechanical systems across the paper mill-working closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.
This is a highly visible role with significant impact on production efficiency, safety, and cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead reliability initiatives across rotating and fixed mechanical equipment (pumps, motors, conveyors, rolls, gearboxes, etc.)
- Analyze equipment failures using root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
- Develop and optimize preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
- Utilize condition monitoring tools (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis)
- Drive continuous improvement projects focused on reducing downtime and maintenance costs
- Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to prioritize and execute reliability improvements
- Support capital projects and equipment upgrades with reliability-focused design input
- Track KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance effectiveness
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- 2-5+ years of experience in reliability, maintenance, or mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment (paper, pulp, steel, chemicals, or similar)
- Strong understanding of rotating equipment and mechanical systems
- Experience with CMMS systems and reliability tools
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies is highly preferred
- Lean, Six Sigma, or reliability certifications (CMRP) are a plus
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
