Senior Quality Engineer
Job Overview
A leading manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to provide strategic quality leadership and drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations. This role is responsible for ensuring products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry quality standards through advanced quality planning, process improvement, root cause analysis, and quality system management.
The Senior Quality Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers while leading quality initiatives that support operational excellence, new product introductions, and long-term business objectives. This position also includes mentoring quality personnel and promoting a culture of quality throughout the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for new and existing products.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality systems, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Create and maintain Control Plans, PFMEAs, and quality planning documentation.
- Manage product and process qualification activities, including CPK studies and Gage R&R analysis.
- Monitor quality performance metrics, nonconformance trends, corrective actions, and reject rates.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing methodologies such as DMAIC, 8D, mistake-proofing, process control, and structured problem-solving.
- Drive advanced root cause investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Maintain Quality Management System (QMS) compliance and support certification requirements, including ISO 9001 standards.
- Coordinate and manage internal and external audit schedules.
- Standardize quality processes, tools, and best practices across operations.
- Facilitate KATA workshops, coaching activities, and value stream mapping initiatives.
- Lead design-for-quality and quality planning efforts during product development and manufacturing transitions.
- Partner with customers, suppliers, engineering, operations, and commercial teams to resolve quality issues and support business objectives.
- Support global quality initiatives and cross-site quality improvement projects.
- Escalate and resolve complex quality concerns impacting production, customer satisfaction, or operational performance.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise and prioritize work assignments for quality team members.
- Train employees on quality principles, methodologies, and continuous improvement tools.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development plans.
- Mentor engineers and quality professionals to strengthen technical and leadership capabilities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, quality ownership, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- 4+ years of quality engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Experience with PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and process validation activities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication, weldments, assemblies, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
- Experience conducting root cause investigations using methodologies such as Fishbone Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Proven experience with corrective actions, 8D investigations, MRBs, and rapid response activities.
- Knowledge of statistical process control, process capability studies, and measurement system analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with experience interfacing directly with customers and suppliers.
- Strong cross-functional leadership and project management abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with data analysis and quality tools such as Minitab, JMP, Power BI, or similar statistical software preferred.
- Experience managing audits and supporting compliance initiatives within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success driving continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.
