Production Supervisor

Role Overview:

The Production Supervisor oversees plant production and maintenance during assigned shifts. This role is responsible for executing the production plan, ensuring a safe work environment, fostering a team-oriented workforce, meeting customer quality and service standards, implementing process improvements, achieving productivity targets, enhancing communication within the plant/shift, resolving operational issues, and delivering training programs.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this position supervises hourly plant employees. It involves close collaboration with plant staff, human resources, accounting, planning, logistics, sales, equipment and supply vendors, contractors, and auditors.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Expertise:

  • Principles and practices of food manufacturing, including food safety, quality, and manufacturing concepts.
  • Familiarity with FDA and OSHA regulations, GMPs, sanitation, and HACCP.
  • Understanding of processing and maintenance equipment and engineering.
  • Financial and manufacturing accounting principles.
  • Financial forecasting and budgeting practices.
  • Inventory planning, production scheduling, production metrics, and system optimization.
  • Continuous improvement concepts and application techniques.
  • Relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Skills:

  • Manage and lead multiple projects with multidisciplinary teams towards a common goal.
  • Gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion.
  • Identify, research, and analyze problems, propose alternative solutions, and anticipate the consequences of proposed actions.
  • Organize, plan, and execute effectively.
  • Utilize computers and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Adhere to performance management and development processes.

Experience and Training:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of food processing experience.
  • Preferred: Supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Preferred: First Aid/CPR and Forklift training.
  • Preferred: SQF, Ammonia Fit, Food Safety, Sensory Evaluation, and/or HACCP training and certification.
