Refrigeration Manager
A large-scale, modern food manufacturing facility is expanding operations and seeking an experienced Refrigeration (Ammonia) Manager to oversee the performance, safety, and reliability of its ammonia-based refrigeration and HVAC systems. This is an opportunity to join a new, high-capacity site during its startup phase and play a key role in building a strong technical and operational foundation. Relocation assistance is available.
Position Overview
The Refrigeration (Ammonia) Manager provides hands-on leadership for all aspects of the facility's industrial refrigeration systems, including a high‑volume ammonia charge and associated HVAC equipment. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operation while driving continuous improvement in system reliability, uptime, and cost performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of all plant ammonia refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Lead and develop a team of supervisors and technicians, ensuring proper staffing, training, safety practices, and performance to meet production needs.
- Ensure full compliance with PSM, HazMat regulations, OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards.
- Direct maintenance activities including equipment installation, preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track and report key performance indicators related to safety, uptime, maintenance costs, and asset management, ensuring targets are met efficiently.
- Drive process optimization and cost‑effective improvement strategies using Lean methodologies (e.g., TPM, TPS) and contribute to capital planning and project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 8+ years of relevant experience in industrial ammonia refrigeration maintenance management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and partnering cross‑functionally with corporate or operational stakeholders.
- Strong technical expertise in ammonia refrigeration systems and Process Safety Management.
- Prior experience in food manufacturing and familiarity with USDA/FDA regulatory environments preferred.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CMRP, Six Sigma, Lean) are beneficial.
- Experience with SAP or similar CMMS tools is a plus.
