Switchboard Engineer II

DSJ Global is partnered with a leading electrical equipment manufacturer who is seeking an accomplished Switchboard Engineer II to join their engineering team in North Charleston, SC. This organization designs and manufactures critical power distribution and protection solutions supporting industries such as telecommunications, energy, transportation, and defense.

As a Switchboard Engineer II, you will design and develop low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, owning engineering activities from concept through production. You will work on complex 3D assemblies, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams while ensuring compliance with key industry standards such as NEC and UL. This role offers a strong blend of technical design ownership and leadership, including mentoring junior engineers and collaborating cross-functionally with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, including full 3D assemblies and large BOMs
  • Create 3D sheet metal components and flat patterns using CAD tools
  • Develop wiring diagrams and electrical schematics using PLCs, relays, breakers, and control components
  • Produce 2D drawings including front views, layout drawings, and single-line diagrams
  • Ensure designs meet UL standards and NEC requirements
  • Support the full product design lifecycle, from concept to release
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure design feasibility and quality
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external vendors
  • Mentor and support junior engineering team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • 4-8 years of experience in switchboard, panelboard, or power distribution design
  • Experience working with UL standards (UL891, UL67, UL508A, or similar)
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools (Autodesk preferred)
  • Strong understanding of NEC (National Electric Code)
  • Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of conductors, OCPDs, and electrical components
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Desired Skills

  • Experience in switchgear or large-scale power distribution systems
  • Familiarity with control circuits, PLCs, and system logic
  • Experience in a manufacturing or OEM environment
  • Prior experience mentoring or leading engineers
