EHS Specialist

Position Summary

The EHS Safety Specialist I is responsible for supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at an industrial facility. This role focuses on the implementation and maintenance of assigned EHS programs and supports site personnel in achieving safety and compliance objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Assist in developing, evaluating, and administering EHS, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and occupational health programs to ensure regulatory compliance and workplace safety.
  • Program Implementation & Enforcement: Collaborate with employees, contractors, and safety teams to promote and enforce safe work practices.
  • Coaching & Mentorship: Guide and mentor personnel at all levels on safety behaviors and best practices.
  • EHS Initiatives: Support safety initiatives aligned with project tracking and performance goals.
  • Hazard Identification: Proactively identify and communicate safety concerns and assist in resolution.
  • Recordkeeping & Reporting: Maintain data and records for EHS compliance and reporting. Track and analyze safety incidents and near misses.
  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct and participate in internal and external EHS inspections and audits.
  • Compliance Tasks: Complete tasks related to compliance calendars, corrective actions, and audit findings.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Participate in emergency drills and exercises.
  • Training: Assist in preparing and delivering EHS training for employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain Safety Data Sheets and support compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in team efforts to drive safety improvements and employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field and 1-3 years of EHS experience in general industry (chemical industry preferred). Equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910) preferred.
  • General knowledge of ISO 14001 is a plus.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and perform physical tasks (e.g., lifting, climbing, kneeling).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15%.
