Assistant Dry Dock Master

Assistant Dry Dock Master required for leading ship repair yard:

  • Assistant Dry Dock Master
  • Tampa, FL
  • $40/hour

The Assistant Dock Master will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of vessel docking and undocking operations
  • Support dry dock preparation activities, including vessel positioning, blocking arrangements, and dock readiness inspections
  • Assist with ballast, deballast, pumping, flooding, and water level operations during docking and undocking evolutions
  • Monitor vessel trim, draft, stability, and alignment throughout docking operations
  • Participate in pre-docking, pre-undocking, and project planning meetings with vessel crews and shipyard personnel
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, production teams, marine operations personnel, tug operators, pilots, and contractors
  • Assist in conducting dock inspections and verifying proper placement of keel blocks, side blocks, shores, and supporting arrangements
  • Support safe vessel movements and help ensure docking activities are completed efficiently and according to schedule
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and incident investigations as needed
  • Maintain docking records, calculations, drawings, and operational documentation

The ideal Assistant Dock Master candidate will have the following skillset:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, maritime, engineering, or shipyard-related training is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience in a shipyard, dry dock, marine operations, waterfront operations, or vessel repair environment
  • Experience supporting vessel docking, undocking, mooring, ballast control, vessel movements, waterfront operations, or dry dock activities
  • Familiarity with vessel stability concepts, trim, draft, ballast systems, or docking arrangements
  • Ability to read and interpret docking plans, vessel drawings, work packages, or technical documentation
  • Experience working with project managers, production teams, vessel crews, contractors, or marine service providers
  • Understanding of shipyard safety procedures and maritime work practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD or similar drawing software is a plus
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and variable schedules based on vessel and dock operations
