The Role
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and reliability efforts at a unionized manufacturing facility, ensuring optimal equipment performance, safety, and operational efficiency across a 3-shift operation.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, oversee capital projects, and build a strong, collaborative maintenance culture aligned with plant goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all maintenance operations across a 24/5 manufacturing environment, ensuring maximum uptime and equipment reliability
- Manage and develop a team of approximately 20 maintenance professionals (technicians and electricians)
- Oversee and continuously improve preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance programs
- Drive root cause analysis on equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions
- Plan, manage, and execute CAPEX projects, including budgeting, vendor selection, and implementation
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, and EHS leadership to meet production and performance targets
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, especially within a union environment
- Utilize continuous improvement tools (Lean, Six Sigma) to enhance maintenance effectiveness and reduce downtime
- Lead maintenance planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to align with production demands
- Support development of SOPs, JSAs, and maintenance best practices
- Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration across the maintenance and plant teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (Engineering or technical discipline strongly preferred)
- 8+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven experience leading maintenance teams (prior management experience required)
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and PLC/controls systems
- Experience in unionized manufacturing environments preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop talent, and drive performance
- Experience managing CAPEX projects and maintenance budgets
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment
