Overview
An exceptional opportunity awaits a seasoned chemical process engineer to lead the scale-up of cutting-edge chemical manufacturing processes from lab-scale to full-scale production. This hands-on leadership role is central to the design, development, and optimization of a world-class engineering function at a newly established flagship facility. The Principal Scale-Up Engineer will be instrumental in driving technical excellence, operational efficiency, and team development within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the transfer of technology from R&D to manufacturing for novel organometallic and inorganic precursors
- Design, scale, and optimize production processes to maximize purity, yield, and consistency
- Oversee equipment selection, P&ID development, and reactor design for batch and semi-continuous systems
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to validate analytical specifications at trace levels (e.g., moisture, halides, metals)
- Identify and mitigate failure modes in air- and moisture-sensitive or thermally unstable compounds
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for process deviations
- Support statistical process control (SPC/SQC) implementation for high-volume manufacturing readiness
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards in handling hazardous chemistries
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Advanced degree (B.S./M.S./Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline
- 9+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing high-purity or specialty chemicals
- Demonstrated success in scaling up air-sensitive, organometallic, or inorganic compounds
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as ICP-MS, NMR, KF, TGA, and GC-MS
- Strong foundation in process safety (PSM, HAZOP, FMEA) and chemical compatibility
- Familiarity with ALD/CVD precursors and electronics-grade standards
- Experience with various reactor types including glass-lined, stainless steel, glovebox, and Schlenk setups
- Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 17025, or GMP-compliant environments
