Director of Materials and Inventory
Position Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Director of Procurement to lead our procurement operations in a high-volume, heavy manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for overseeing all sourcing, purchasing, and supplier management activities to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, components, and services. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in industrial supply chains, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management, with a strong focus on operational efficiency and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement Leadership
- Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with production goals and business objectives.
- Lead sourcing initiatives for raw materials, fabricated components, capital equipment, and MRO supplies.
- Establish and manage long-term supplier relationships to ensure quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Operational Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, systems, and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and logistics teams to align procurement with manufacturing schedules and inventory targets.
- Implement best practices in demand planning, inventory control, and supplier risk management.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
- Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and support professional development.
Cost Management & Negotiation
- Lead contract negotiations and cost reduction initiatives across the supply base.
- Analyze market trends and commodity pricing to inform sourcing decisions and mitigate cost volatility.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and provide regular reporting to executive leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive procurement experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial sectors.
- Strong knowledge of industrial materials, fabrication processes, and global supply markets.
- Proven track record in strategic sourcing, supplier development, and cost optimization.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and procurement analytics tools.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM)
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
- Lean Six Sigma or APICS Certification
