Company Summary:

A large continuous manufacturing operation is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead all maintenance, reliability, and contractor activities at its Tuscaloosa production facility. The site operates multiple high-volume production lines supported by bulk solids handling, asphalt systems, and converting equipment. This role plays a critical part in maximizing equipment uptime, strengthening maintenance execution, and building a high-performing team culture. The Maintenance Manager responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop a maintenance team of approximately 25 employees, including mechanical supervisors, a controls supervisor, and a reliability engineer.
  • Build a high-performance culture grounded in professionalism, accountability, and results.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Support Services, and EHS to ensure alignment across the facility.
  • Maintain strong daily presence on the production floor and reinforce safety and reliability expectations.
  • Oversee mechanical, electrical, controls, and reliability work across conveyors, mills, elevators, fired heaters, asphalt systems, palletizers, and related equipment.
  • Ensure safe and timely maintenance execution in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Support troubleshooting and breakdown response to resolve issues quickly and safely.
  • Manage work notifications, planning, and work orders using SAP or a similar CMMS.
  • Drive PM compliance, reduce reactive work, and strengthen proactive maintenance practices.
  • Lead continuous improvement through RCPE investigations, predictive technologies, and reliability optimization.
  • Develop weekly maintenance schedules and ensure alignment with production priorities.
  • Manage maintenance capital projects, shutdowns, and down-day planning, including contractor oversight.
  • Oversee maintenance safety programs, including LOTO, hot work, confined space, and contractor safety protocols.
  • Support regulatory inspections for boilers, pressure vessels, and safety devices.
  • Build and manage the annual maintenance budget, ensuring responsible cost control and resource allocation.
  • Develop long-term asset strategies and work with leadership to plan capital replacements.

The Maintenance Manager should have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; engineering background strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of maintenance leadership experience within a complex, continuous manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to lead supervisors and develop technical teams.
  • Experience collaborating with Operations and other plant functions in a 24/7 setting.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to remain steady under pressure and drive data-based decisions.
  • Working knowledge of electrical/instrumentation systems, controls, and PLC automation (Siemens preferred).
  • Experience managing contractors, outages, and multiple priorities safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar CMMS applications.
