Manufacturing Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support and enhance production equipment and processes within a food manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize manufacturing systems while driving efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Equipment & Systems Engineering

  • Lead the design, specification, installation, and commissioning of food processing equipment and production systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with sanitary engineering principles and food safety standards.
  • Evaluate and improve existing equipment for reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance.

Project Management

  • Manage capital projects from concept through execution, including vendor selection, procurement, budgeting, and startup.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation such as process flow diagrams, timelines, and risk assessments.

Process Optimization

  • Analyze manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improving efficiency, reducing waste, and lowering costs.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and maintenance teams to implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Automation & Controls

  • Partner with controls engineers and external vendors to support automation system integration and troubleshooting (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, SCADA).
  • Ensure effective communication and integration across manufacturing systems.

Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain compliance with applicable food safety and regulatory standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA/USDA requirements).
  • Promote a strong culture of workplace safety and product quality.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a technical liaison across engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, and vendor partners.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to solve production issues and drive innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably within food or regulated industries
  • Proven experience managing capital projects and leading process improvement efforts
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and process design documentation
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and problem-solving methodologies
  • Familiarity with food safety standards and regulatory requirements (GMP, HACCP, SQF)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams
