Engineering Manager (M/F/D)

Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering to lead the site-based engineering function at a new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Eastern Germany. This role is responsible for delivering major capital projects, establishing robust engineering processes, and ensuring the reliable operation of buildings, utilities, and equipment. The position also oversees commissioning, qualification, calibration, and maintenance activities, as well as capital project portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful delivery of a new site establishment project, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and scope.
  • Develop and execute project management strategies, coordinating internal teams and external partners, including equipment suppliers and construction vendors.
  • Build and lead high-performing engineering and facilities teams to support both project execution and ongoing operations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration, aligned with modern leadership principles.
  • Contribute to site-wide strategic planning as part of the leadership team, including the development of a 5-year Site Master Plan covering production volumes, operational costs, and capital investments.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent, ensuring strong succession planning and team development.
  • Oversee the commissioning and qualification of production areas and equipment in preparation for commercial operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality and Production leadership to support product release decisions, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in quality, safety, and environmental performance through structured risk management and incident response programs.
  • Implement and manage a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure efficient maintenance and calibration practices.
  • Manage the site's capital investment budget and oversee the project portfolio post-launch.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience in engineering roles within GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing, including at least 5 years in sterile drug product environments.
  • Proven leadership experience in engineering and maintenance within a GMP facility, ideally with exposure to lean facility design and aseptic or radiopharmaceutical operations.
  • Strong understanding of engineering standards for pharmaceutical buildings, utilities, and equipment, as well as experience managing large-scale construction projects.
  • Fluent in both English and German.
