Quality Engineer
Job Description
A leading specialty manufacturing company is seeking a Quality Engineer to support product quality, process improvement, and quality system initiatives within a continuous manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for driving quality performance, reducing defects and nonconformances, supporting root cause investigations, and ensuring products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The Quality Engineer will work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and external customers to improve manufacturing processes, implement quality improvements, and maintain compliance with quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in quality systems, process improvement, data analysis, and manufacturing quality assurance.
Job Requirements
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Support and maintain plant quality management systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, internal quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits, quality inspections, and corrective action programs.
- Maintain quality records, documentation, and reporting systems.
- Assist with customer and regulatory audits as required.
Product Quality & Process Improvement
- Monitor product quality performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze quality data, trends, customer complaints, and nonconformances to drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Develop and implement process controls to improve product consistency and reduce defects.
- Partner with operations teams to improve manufacturing performance and product quality.
- Support new product introductions, process changes, and quality validation activities.
Continuous Improvement
- Utilize data analysis and statistical tools to identify process variation and improvement opportunities.
- Lead quality improvement projects focused on waste reduction, yield improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop key quality metrics and communicate results to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, safety, and quality excellence.
- Assist in developing standardized work practices and quality procedures.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Investigate and respond to customer quality concerns and complaints.
- Participate in customer meetings regarding quality performance and improvement initiatives.
- Support supplier quality activities, including supplier evaluations and corrective action follow-up.
- Work collaboratively with vendors and customers to ensure quality requirements are met.
Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to improve overall plant performance.
- Provide quality-related training and guidance to manufacturing personnel.
- Communicate quality priorities, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
- Support capital projects and equipment initiatives that impact product quality.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, quality systems, or a related manufacturing role.
- Experience within a continuous manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, process improvement methodologies, and root cause analysis techniques.
- Experience conducting corrective and preventive action (CAPA) investigations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience utilizing quality data to drive process improvements and decision-making.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the paper, pulp, tissue, packaging, or other process manufacturing industries.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC), Minitab, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Quality certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green Belt, or Black Belt.
- Experience supporting customer audits, supplier quality programs, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
