Are you an experienced freight forwarder who enjoys taking ownership of shipments from start to finish? Do you thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment and enjoy working closely with customers, carriers, shipping lines, and international partners?
We're looking for a Senior Ocean Freight Forwarder to join a growing team in Rotterdam, managing international import and export shipments while delivering excellent customer service and operational excellence.
The Role
As a Senior Ocean Freight Forwarder, you'll be responsible for the complete coordination of ocean freight shipments, ensuring cargo moves efficiently, on time, and within budget.
You'll act as the key point of contact for customers and logistics partners while maintaining full ownership of your files from booking through to final delivery and invoicing.
Your Responsibilities
Ocean Freight Operations
- Manage import and export shipments from A-Z
- Book transport with shipping lines and logistics partners
- Coordinate collection, transport, delivery, and onward carriage
- Monitor shipment progress and resolve any delays or issues
- Maintain accurate shipment information within CargoWise and internal systems
Customs & Documentation
- Prepare and check shipping and customs documentation
- Work closely with customs specialists to ensure smooth clearance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures
Customer Management
- Build strong relationships with customers and overseas agents
- Act as the main point of contact for operational queries
- Handle escalations and provide effective solutions
- Deliver a high level of customer service throughout the shipment lifecycle
Financial Responsibility
- Monitor shipment profitability and margins
- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing
- Verify supplier invoices and costs
- Support the overall financial performance of the department
What We're Looking For
- Experience within Ocean Freight Forwarding or International Logistics
- Strong understanding of import/export processes
- Knowledge of customs procedures and shipping documentation
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Fluent in Dutch and English
- Experience with CargoWise is a plus
- Commercially aware and customer-focused
- Able to work independently while contributing to a team environment
