Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Operations and EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of our winery's operations, while ensuring compliance with relevant EHS regulations and standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, improving efficiency and productivity, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. This role requires excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with a deep understanding of winery operations and EHS principles.
Responsibilities:
1. Operations Management:
- Oversee and manage all operational activities of the winery, including production, bottling, packaging, logistics, and maintenance.
- Develop and implement effective operational strategies to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiency.
- Ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of production schedules, while maintaining high quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, resolve operational bottlenecks, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
2. Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure a safe working environment for employees and visitors.
- Design and deliver EHS training programs to educate employees on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stay updated on relevant EHS regulations and industry best practices, and proactively implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
3. Team Leadership:
- Lead and motivate a team of operational staff, including production workers, logistics personnel, and maintenance technicians.
- Set performance objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to enhance individual and team performance.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the operations team.
- Promote effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork across departments to achieve common goals.
4. Budgeting and Resource Management:
- Develop annual operational budgets and manage expenses within approved budgetary limits.
- Optimize resource allocation, including labor, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient utilization and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to maintain adequate inventory levels and timely delivery of raw materials and supplies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Proven experience (4+ years) in winery operations management, with a solid understanding of wine production processes and quality control.
- In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices in the winery industry.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of implementing process improvements and achieving operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with budgeting, cost control, and resource management.
- Professional certifications in EHS management (e.g., CSP, CHMM, CIH) are desirable.
